HomeMy WebLinkAbout17082 ORD - 06/16/1982jkh:6-15-82 .: AN ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING EXECUTION OF CHANGE ORDER TO CONTRACT WITH CIVIL CONSTRUCTORS, INC. FOR CONSTRUCTION OF DOWNTOWN CURB, GUTTER, SIDEWALK AND DRIVE RENOVATION AND APPROPRIATING $5,486.10 FOR THE IMPROVEMENTS SET OUT IN SAID CHANGE ORDER; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS: SECTION 1. That the City Manager be and he is hereby authorized to execute Change Order No. 1 to the contract with Civil Constructors, Inc., for construction of the Downtown Curb, Gutter and Sidewalk and Driveway Renovation, which provides for construction of concrete sidewalks along Chaparral Street from Resaca Street to Hughes Street fronting the Historical Homes in the Bayfront Plaza, as set forth in the change order, a substantial copy of which is attached hereto and made a part hereof, marked Exhibit "A". SECTION 2. That there is hereby appropriated out of the No. 209 Community Convention Facility Bond Fund the sum of $5,486.10 for Project No. 209-76-1.3, Convention Center Construction. SECTION 3. That upon written request of the Mayor or five Council members, copy attached, to find and declare an emergency due to the need to take immediate action to complete the public improvements described herein- above at the earliest practicable date, such finding of an emergency is made and declared requiring suspension of the Charter rule as to consideration and voting upon ordinances or resolutions at three regular meetings so that this ordinance is passed and sh 11 take effect upon first reading as an emergency measure this the day of June, 1982. CHANGE 1. At the Historical Homes site: 1) Install 1,400 S.F. concrete sidewalk at the contract price of $2.85/S.F. 2) Remove and replace 30 L.P. curb and gutter at the contract price of $18.67/S.F. 3) Repair 43 L.F. curb and gutter at the negotiated price of $12.00/L.F. (see attached sketch) 11. At the Hirsch -chaparral intersection: 1) Add 60 S.F. of pebble walk at the negotiated price of $8.00/S.F. (see attached sketch) ADD DEDUCT $3,990.00 500.10 516.00 480.00 TOTAL $6,486.10 Why was this change necessary? (If left off the plans and specifications, explain why.) Item I was requested by Assistant City Manager, Sill Nenninos, to complete the improvements at the Historical Homes site. Funding is available from the Convention Center Bond Fund. Item II was left off the plans that increased the curb return radius at this intersection. Pebble walk is needed to match existing sidewalk. How can similar changes be avoided in the future? GENERAL Sidewalk shall be constructed in accordance with City Standard Specification S-53, "concrete Sidewalks and'priveways". - 2. MATERIALS Concrete Shall be Class "B" and shall comply with City Standard Specifi- cation S-40, "Portland Cement Concrete", except as herein amended. Coarse aggregate shall consist only of 5/8" "Pea Gravel" (1/2 minimum to 3/4" - 1 maximum in size). Reinforcement shall be 6" x 6" No. 6 Welded Wire Mesh, on the City's Standard Street -Detail sheet. 3. EXECUTION Grade 40, as shown 3.1 Placement - Place concrete with 4" to 5" sluTp, screed and bull float so that all aggregate is completely embedaa jtit below the .surface - with no holes or openings.16f-fah the, surface.
