HomeMy WebLinkAbout17089 ORD - 06/23/1982lw;6-19-,82;lst • AN ORDINANCE APPROPRIATING $4,300 FROM PARK BOND FUND NO. 291 FOR DEVELOPMENT OF A JOGGING COURSE --FITNESS TRAIL AT SWANTNER PARK AND AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO APPLY FOR GRANT ASSISTANCE FROM THE WELLS FARGO BANK IN THE AMOUNT OF $2,500 TO AID IN DEVELOPING THE SAID RECREATIONAL FACILITY; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS: SECTION 1. That there is hereby appropriated the sum of $4,300 from Park Bond Fund No. 291, Swantner Park Improvements, Project No. 291- 77-3.1, to be used for development of a jogging course --fitness trail at Swantner Park. SECTION 2. That the City Manager be authorized to apply for grant assistance from the Wells Fargo Bank in the amount of $2,500 to aid in dev- eloping the aforesaid recreational facility, a substantial copy of which grant application is attached hereto and made a part hereof, marked Exhibit "A". SECTION 3. That upon written request of the Mayor or five Council member's, copy attached, to find and declare an emergency due to the need to take immediate action to utilize the City's resources and to provide addi- tional recreational facilities for the public, such finding of an emergency is made and declared requiring suspension of the Charter rule as to consideration and voting upon ordinances or resolutions at three regular meetings so that this ordinance is passed and shall take effect upon first reading as an emergency measure this the .225 day of June, 1982. Levels of Fitness Activity Please describe the level of fitness activity and events‘which your organization offers or participates in. Include races (10K, etc.), classes, or anything which indicates the level of fitness awareness. Please indicate • enrollment in classes and or number of participants including viewers in events. 1. The followlng classes are offered throughout the year with an average attendance of 1,700 to 2,000 participants per session with youth, adult, senior citi— zens, and co—ed levels: Aerobics, Gymnastics, Karate, Dancercise, Weight Training, Jassercise, Tumbling, Ballet/Tap, Acrobatics, Tennis, Aquacize, Volleyball, Belly Dance, and Badminton. 2. Summer playground sites have 68,800 day visits. The majority of activities conducted at the summer sites are physical and motorskill development type. 3. The Recreation Department also conducts a softball program with a 5,000 plus participation level along with soccer, basketball and a summer youth track and field activities. Competition swim, learn to swim and recreational swim is also offered. 4. Level of Fitness Support Please list groups which are interested in using, promoting or teaching classes on your Gamefield The City of Corpus Christi Park and Recreation Department. Please explain briefly why your organization should be awarded a Wells Fargo Gamefield Grant The recommended park is part of a hiker/biker system which is accessible from all parts of the city. Heavy usage of joggers and long distance runners now occurr along this route and the fitness trail would be a compliment to their physical conditioning. The park has undergone recent development of parking areas to accommodate park users who drive to the park for recreation and a fitness trail would be a great asset to offer in the form of play and physical development for all ages. n RAMA nu Our Organization Understands the Following: 1. Our organization is responsible for installation of our Wells Fargo Gamefield, which must be completed within six months of delivery, or Wells Fargo Bank shall have the right to have the Gamefield returned, with the accepting organization paying all freight costs. 2. Wells Fargo does not provide full funding for Gamefields. Organizations must raise the balance of funding, including applicable tax and freight, by their own means. 3. A proposed layout of the Gamefield must be submitted. This can be a hand done sketch or a blueprint, but applications will not be considered without some visual aid for your proposed location. 4. All Gamefields must be made available on an unbiased basis without consideration of race, sex, color or creed. 5. All Gamefields must be either open to the public or made a regular part of your organization's fitness program.
