A RESOLUTION
EXPRESSING THE SUPPORT OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF CORPUS
CHRISTI, TEXAS, FOR THE INTEGRATED MANAGEMENT PLAN FOR
MATAGORDA ISLAND BY THE TEXAS PARKS AND WILDLIFE
DEPARTMENT.
WHEREAS, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department has a longstanding
interest in parks, wildlife, open spaces, and the preservation of our state's
ecological balance and has proven successful management of more than 200,000
wildlife acres now under it's jurisdiction; and
WHEREAS, developed areas are maintained in as nearly a natural
state as possible while supporting wildlife support facilities without
endangering the scientific, natural, historical, and archeological areas; and
WHEREAS, the preservation of the natural habitat, and the
protection of wildlife an endangered species is of prime importance; and
WHEREAS, the provision of a sound management program to balance
development and conservation is practiced and environmental, pollution, and
conservation laws and regulations are enforced; and
WHEREAS, the establishment of management by the state is in keeping
with the public interest in this natural habitat, and controls at home assure
a more coordinated effort of Councils of Governments, River Authorities,
Environmental Groups, etc., in the preservation and development of this area.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CORPUS CHRISTI TEXAS:
SECTION 1. That the City of Corpus Christi in keeping with these
same cooperative efforts concurs in this State's integrated management plan
for Matagorda Island, and has the utmost confidence in the ability of the
Texas Parks and Wildlife Department to manage Matagorda Island.
SECTION 2. That the City Secretary is hereby instructed to furnish
a true copy of this resolution to the United States department of the
Interior Fish and Wildlife Service, Albuquerque, New Mexico and the Texas
Parks and Wildlife Department, Austin, Texas.
SECTION 3. That upon written request of the Mayor or five Council
members, copy attached, to find and declare an emergency due to the public
importance and necessity to express the support of the City Council for the
Texas Parks and Wildlife Department management of Matagorda Island as
ISP 28 1984

aforesaid, such finding of an emergency is made and declared requiring
suspension of the Charter rule as to consideration and voting upon ordinances
or resolutions at three regular meetings so that this resolution is passed
and shall take effect upon first reading as an emergency measure this the

For the reasons set forth in the emergency clause of the foregoing ordinance or resolution,
an emergency exists requiring suspension of the Charter rule as to consideration and voting
upon ordinances or resolutions at three regular meetings; 1/we, therefore, request that you
suspend said Charter rule and pass this ordinance or resolution finally on the date it is
introduced, or at the present meeting of the City Council.
