HomeMy WebLinkAbout17289 ORD - 10/06/1982AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE CODE OF ORDINANCES TO ESTABLISH A PERMANENT ART TRUST FUND; AND PROVIDING AN INITIAL APPROPRIATION OF $25,000. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS: SECTION 1. That the Code of Ordinances of the City of Corpus Christi, Texas, be amended by amending Chapter 2, Administration, Article V. Office of Cultural and Leisure Time Activities, Division 5. Art Museum and Arts Commission, by adding thereto Section 2-153 to be entitled Permanent Art Trust Fund, which section shall read as follows: A Permanent Art Trust Fund is hereby created for the purpose of providing public, and encouraging private, funding for the acquisition of permanent works of art. Prior to the beginning of each fiscal year, the municipal arts commission shall recommend to the city council an amount to be appropriated for contribution to the Fund. Private contributions to the fund shall also be encouraged by the city council and the municipal arts commission. Disbursements from the Fund for the acquisition of permanent works of art shall be recommended by the municipal arts commission to the city council for approval by motion. "Permanent works of art" shall be defined as paintings, mural decorations, statues, sculpture, monuments, fountains or other structures or items of a permanent nature to be located within the public right-of-way or on public property. SECTION 2. The amount of $25,000 is hereby appropriated to the Permanent Art Trust Fund from the budgeted allocation of $44,000 for art and cultural projects in the tourist and convention development fund.
