HomeMy WebLinkAbout17353 RES - 11/10/1982A RESOLUTION ENDORSING THE RECOMMENDATIONS OF THE GOVERNOR'S TASK FORCE ON TRAFFIC SAFETY REGARDING DRIVING WHILE INTOXICATED; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. WHEREAS, motor vehicle accidents caused by intoxicated drivers are the most frequently committed violent crimes in America; and WHEREAS, the Corpus Christi Traffic Safety Advisory Board has supported the recommendations of the Governor's Task Force on Traffic Safety regarding driving while intoxicated and related offenses; THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS: SECTION 1: That the City Council of the City of Corpus Christi, Texas, endorses the recommendations of the Governor's Task Force on Traffic Safety regarding driving while intoxicated and related offenses. SECTION 2. That the City Secretary is instructed to forward certified copies of this resolution to the honorable members of the Corpus Christi legisltative delegation for the Regular Session of the 68th Texas Legislature. SECTION 3. That upon the written request of the Mayor or five Council members, copy attached, to find and declare an emergency due to the necessity of endorsing such recommendations to alleviate the continuing harm and damages to property caused by intoxicated drivers, such finding of an emergency is made and declare requiring suspension of the Charter rule as to consideration and voting upon ordinances or resolutions at three regular meetings so that this ordinance is passedand shall take effect upon first reading as an emergency measure this the day of November, 1982.
