WHEREAS, Baker Marine plans an industrial complex to be known as
"Baker's Port, Inc.", to be located in San Patricio County, Texas, which will
mean jobs for up to 5,000 people and millions of dollars per year in
payrolls, benefiting the whole community:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of
Corpus Christi, Texas, endorses the concept of Baker's Port, Inc.; recognizes
the economic impact that Baker's Port, Inc. will have in the South Texas
area; and urges the United States Army Corps of Engineers to speedily
consider the Baker Marine application when submitted to build Baker's Port,
Inc. and to give such application as favorable determination as possible; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be sent to
the District Engineer, Galveston District, United States Corps of Engineers,
and a copy to Baker Marine.
That upon written request of the Mayor or five Council members,
copy attached, to find and declare an emergency due to the desire of the City
Council to endorse the concept of Baker's Port, Inc. as soon as possible,
such finding of an emergency is made and declared requiring suspension of the
Charter rule as to consideration and voting upon ordinances or resolutions at
three regular meeting so that this ordinance is passed and shall take effect
upon first reading as an emergency measure this the 22nd day of December,
1982.

For the reasons set forth in the emergency clause of the foregoing ordinance
or resolution, an emergency exists requiring suspension of the Charter rule
as to consideration and voting upon ordinances or resolutions at three
regular meetings; I/we, therefore, request that you suspend said Charter rule
and pass this ordinance or resolution finally on the date it is introduced,
or at the present meeting of the City Council.
