EXPRESSING THE GRATITUDE OF THE CORPUS CHRISTI CITY
COUNCIL AND THE HUMAN RELATIONS COMMISSION TO THE WALL
STREET CAFETERIA FOR ITS PROVISION OF FREE MEALS ON
CHRISTMAS DAY 1982.
WHEREAS, the closing days of 1982 brought with them financial
hardship for many of the residents and visitors in the City of Corpus
Christi; and
WHEREAS, the birth of Christ is celebrated on December 25, and part
of that celebration is reflected in gestures of goodwill toward man; and
WHEREAS, on December 25, 1982, the Wall Street Cafeteria extended
its offering of goodwill by preparing and serving 145 free meals to the less
fortunate of 1982's financial turmoil; and
WHEREAS, the Corpus Christi City Council and the Corpus Christi
Human Relations Commission recognize the benevolent effort undertaken by the
Wall Street Cafeteria in the unselfish sharing of its good fortune:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF CORPUS
CHRISTI, TEXAS:
SECTION 1. That the City Council and Human Relations Commission
express their gratitude to the Wall Street Cafeteria for its commendable
display of generosity and that this resolution take effect and be in full
force from and after its passage.
SECTION 2. That upon written request of the Mayor or five Council
members, copy attached, to find and declare an emergency due to the desire of
the City Council and the Human Relations Commission to express their
gratitude at the earliest possible time, such finding of an emergency is made
and declared requiring suspension of the Charter rule as to consideration and
voting upon ordinances or resolutions at three regular meetings so that this
ordinance is passed and shall take effect upon first reading as an emergency
measure this the 9th day of February, 1983.

For the reasons set forth in the emergency clause of the foregoing ordinance
or resolution, an emergency exists requiring suspension of the Charter rule
as to consideration and voting upon ordinances or resolutions at three
regular meetings; I/we, therefore, request that you suspend said Charter rule
and pass this ordinance or resolution finally on the date it is introduced,
or at the present meeting of the City Council.
