AN ORDINANCE

AMENDING SUBSECTION 506.1 AND 506.9 OF THE BUILDING CODE
ADOPTED BY ORDINANCE NO. 15256 TO REQUIRE THAT ALL NEW
BUILDINGS` HAVING FLOORS MORE THAN 75 FEET ABOVE THE
LOWEST LEVEL OF THE FIRE DEPARTMENT VEHICLE ACCESS SHALL
BE PROVIDED WITH AN APPROVED AUTOMATIC SPRINKLER SYSTEM;
PROVIDING FOR SEVERANCE; PROVIDING FOR PUBLICATION; AND
PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI,
TEXAS:
SECTION 1. (a) That Ordinance No. 15256 approved by the City
Council on December 12, 1979, as amended, the Building Code is hereby amended
by amending Subsection 506.1 of said Building Code to hereafter read as
follows:
"506.1 - SCOPE. These requirements shall apply to all Group R -
Residential and Group B - Business buildings having floors used for human
occupancy located more than 75 feet above the lowest level of fire department
vehicle access. Such buildings shall be provided with an approved automatic
sprinklering system in accordance with Section 506.10. All mechanical and
electrical systems shall be approved and installed in accordance with
approved plans and specifications pursuant to this section and shall be
tested and proved to be in proper working condition before the building is
occupied. -
(b) Section 506.9 is hereby deleted.
SECTION 2. If for any reason any section, paragraph, subdivision,
clause, phrase, word, or provision of this ordinance shall be held invalid or
unconstitutional by final judgment of a court of competent jurisdiction, it
shall not affect any other section, paragraph, subdivision, clause, phrase,
word or provision of this ordinance, for it is the definite intent of this
City Council that every section, paragraph, subdivision, clause, phrase,
word, or provision hereof be given full force and effect for its purpose.
SECTION 3. Publication shall be made one time in the official
publication of the City of Corpus Christi by publishing the caption of this
ordinance, stating in substance the purpose of the ordinance.
SECTION 4. The effective date of this ordinance shall be July 1,
1983.
