HomeMy WebLinkAbout17529 RES - 03/16/1983A RESOLUTION ACCEPTING THE von BLUCHER GIFT DEED OF LAND ADJACENT TO BLUCHER PARK AND EXPRESSING THE CITY COUNCIL'S APPRECIATION FOR THIS GIFT; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. WHEREAS, the von Blucher family is an honored pioneer family of this community; and WHEREAS, they have distinguished themselves over many years in civic pride and public service; and WHEREAS, the von Blucher family did present to the City of Corpus Christi on July 11, 1942, a parcel of land comprising 3.32 acres of land for public park use and known as Blucher Park; and WHEREAS, Blucher Park was given as a public area where all could commune with nature; and WHEREAS, Blucher Park was designated as a bird sanctuary in 1965; and WHEREAS, Miss Marie von Blucher, an honored member of the von Blucher family, has tendered a gift of land to the City of Corpus Christi adjoining Blucher Park, being .44 acre in size; and WHEREAS, this parcel of land will become an integral and valued addition to Blucher Park and add to the intents and purposes of the original family gift. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS: SECTION 1. That the City Council of the City of Corpus Christi does hereby accept this gift with the sincerest appreciation and does hereby extend its heartfelt gratitude to Miss Marie von Blucher for her continued display of public pride and generosity. SECTION 2. That upon written request of the Mayor or five Council members, copy attached, to find and declare an emergency due to the desire of the City Council to express its appreciation to Miss Marie von Blucher at the earliest possible time, such finding of an emergency is made and declared requiring suspension of the Charter rule as to consideration and voting upon ordinances or resolutions at three regular meetings so that this ordinance is 17529 MICROFILMED SEP 2 81984 passed and shall take effect upon first reading as an emergency measure this the ) L0 day of '-1'h(y)J y 1983.
