CALLING AN ELECTION ON AN ADVISORY REFERENDUM AS TO A
PREFERRED LOCATION FOR THE NEW CITY HALL TO BE HELD ON
THE 13TH DAY OF AUGUST, 1983, JOINTLY WITH THE CITY
COUNCIL ELECTION AND THE CORPUS CHRISTI JUNIOR COLLEGE
DISTRICT ANNEXATION ELECTION; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Corpus Christi is desirous
of knowing the will of the voters of the City of Corpus Christi as to a
preferred location for the new City Hall:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS:
SECTION 1. That a special election on an advisory referendum as to
a preferred location for the new City Hall be held on the 13th day of August,
1983, jointly with the City Council election and the Corpus Christi Junior
College District annexation election.
SECTION 2. That at said election herein ordered all the qualified
voters of the City of Corpus Christi shall be permitted to vote.
SECTION 3. That the advisory referendum shall be submitted as
follows:
Preferred location for the new City Hall:
Present City Hall site on Shoreline Boulevard
Site in the general area of the new Courthouse
SECTION 4. That all the other provisions of the ordinance of even
date herewith calling the City Council election shall be incorporated herein
by reference the same as if herein set out with respect to voting machines,
polling places, election officers, dates and hours of absentee voting,
special canvassing board, and posting and publishing of election notices.
SECTION 5. The fact that is necessary and essential that the
governing body of the City of Corpus Christi shall order elections pertaining
to municipal affairs and that the notice of such election shall be properly
posted and published and that a special advisory referendum on the subject of
the preferred location for the new City Hall site be held jointly with the
City Council election and the Corpus Christi Junior College District
annexation election on August 13, 1983, creates a public emergency and an
imperative public necessity requiring the suspension of the Charter rule that
no ordinance or resolution shall be passed finally on the date of its

introduction but that such ordinance or resolution shall be read at three
several meetings of the City Council, and the Mayor, having declared that
such an emergency and necessity exist, having requested the suspension of the
Charter rule and that this resolution be passed finally on the date of its
introduction and take effect and be in full for and effect from its
passage, IT IS ACCORDING SO RESOLVED this the /J'tay of July, 1983.

For the reasons set forth in the emergency clause of the foregoing ordinance
or resolution, an emergency exists requiring suspension of the Charter rule
as to consideration and voting upon ordinances or resolutions at three
regular meetings; I/we, therefore, request that you suspend said Charter rule
and pass this ordinance or resolution finally on the date it is introduced,
or at the present meeting of the City Council.
