HomeMy WebLinkAbout17743 RES - 07/27/19835-( A RESOLUTION WHEREAS, the last session of the Texas Legislature passed legislation which authorized cities to increase the maximum hotel occupancy tax from 4% to 7%; and WHEREAS, it is the intent of the Legislature that the additional revenue from the additional 3% room occupancy tax be used to enhance and promote the tourist and convention industry, including the improvement, equipping, repairing, operation, and maintenance of Convention Center facilities; and WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Corpus Christi is committed to the maintenance, operation, and improvement of a first class Convention Center facility. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS: SECTION 1. That the additional revenue from the additional 3% room occupancy tax be committed to: (1) supporting the operational costs of the Convention Center, (2) providing a fund for equipment, improvement and major maintenance projects for the Convention Center, (3) providing a fund for expansion of the Convention Center facility and major capital improvements related to the Convention Center facility such as the development of the central plaza area. SECTION 2. The necessity to enhance and promote the tourist and convention industry through the maintenance and operation of a first class convention facility, as aforesaid, creates a public emergency and an imperative public necessity requiring the suspension of the Charter rule that no ordinance or resolution shall be passed finally on the date of its introduction but that said ordinance or resolution shall be read at three several meetings of the City Council, and the Mayor having declared such emergency and necessity to exist, having requested this suspension of the Charter rule and that this resolution take effect and be in full force and 17743 sgp 2 8 19 84 MICROFILMED effect from and after its passage, IT IS ACCORDINGLY SO RESOLVED, this the 27th day of July, 1983.
