PROHIBITING THE USE OF AUTOMATIC FIRE ALARM DIALING
DEVICES FOR DIRECT CONTACT WITH THE FIRE DEPARTMENT;
PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY AND FOR PUBLICATION.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI,
TEXAS:
SECTION 1. That the Code of Ordinances of the City of Corpus
Christi, Texas, as amended, be amended by adding thereto the following
provision:
It shall be unlawful for any person to own or operate, or
cause to be operated, an automatic dialing device which when
activated selects a telephone line leading to the fire department
then transmits a prerecorded message or signal reporting a fire or
other emergency. When used in this section, the term "automatic
dialing device" shall mean any device which automatically sends
over regular telephone lines, by direct connection or otherwise, a
prerecorded voice message or coded signal indicating the existence
of the emergency situation that an alarm system is designated to
detect.
SECTION 2. If for any reason any section, paragraph, subdivision,
clause, phrase, word or provision of this ordinance shall be held invalid or
unconstitutional by final judgment of a court of competent jurisdiction, it
shall not affect any other section, paragraph, subdivision, clause, phrase,
word or provision of this ordinance for it is the definite intent of this
City Council that every section, paragraph, subdivision, clause, phrase, word
or provision hereof be given full force and effect for its purpose.
SECTION 3. This ordinance shall take effect from and after its
publication one time in the official publication of the City of Corpus
Christi, which publication shall contain the caption stating in summary the
purpose of the ordinance.
