HomeMy WebLinkAbout17916 ORD - 11/02/1983AN ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING THE EXECUTION OF CHANGE ORDER NO. 2 TO THE CONTRACT WITH ASPHALT PAVING AND CONSTRUCTION CO. FOR THE SPOHN HOSPITAL AREA STREET IMPROVEMENTS, PHASE I, WHICH PROVIDES FOR INSTALLATION OF 8 DECORATIVE LIGHTS FROM SOUTH STAPLES TO CARANCAHUA; APPROPRIATING $19,798.56; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS: SECTION 1. That the City Manager is hereby authorized to execute Change Order No. 2 to the contract with Asphalt Paving and Construction Co. for the Spohn Hospital Area Street Improvements, Phase I, which provides for installation of 8 decorative lights from South Staples to Carancahua, according to Change Order No. 2, a substantial copy of which is attached hereto and made a part hereof, marked Exhibit "A". SECTION 2. That there is hereby appropriated $19,798.56 from the No. 162 Federal States Grant Fund, Dept. 152, Activity No. 807.04, Code 502, Sixth Year Community Development Block Grant Fund, applicable to Project ' No. 220-77-2.15, Spohn Hospital Area Street Improvements, Phase I. Section 3. That upon written request of the Mayor or five Council members, copy attached, to find and declare an emergency due to the need to take immediate action to preserve and protect public property by expediting the construction of public improvements, such finding of an emergency is made and declared requiring suspension of the Charter rule as to consideration and voting upon ordinances or resolutions at three regular meetings so that this ordinance is passed and shall take effect upon first reading as an emergency measure this the 2nd day of November, 1983. Add the following item to the contract: Furnish and install eight (8) decorative lights along Furman Avenue from South Staples to Carancahua including all conduit and wire for the lump sum price of $18,332.00 2. Overhead and profit - 81 ADD DEDUCT _ $18,332.00 1,466.56 TOTAL $19,798.56 Why was this change necessary? (If left off the plans and specifications, explain why.) The Furman Avenue Association requested that the decorative lights be installed along with the other improvements to Furman Avenue. The Association has deposited with the City $4,790.00 to offset some of the cost of installation. How can similar changes be avoided in the future?
