AN ORDINANCE
AUTHORIZING THE EXECUTION OF A CONTRACT WITH EWING
CONSTRUCTION CO., INC. FOR THE FIVE POINTS FIRE STATION
PROJECT; AUTHORIZING DEDUCTIVE CHANGE ORDER NO. 1 IN THE
AMOUNT OF $20,000 PROVIDING FOR SPECIFICATIONS AND BUILDING
MODIFICATIONS; APPROPRIATING $289,500; AND DECLARING AN
EMERGENCY.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS tCNRISTI,
SECTION 1. That the City Manager is hereby authorized to execute a
contract with Ewing Construction Co., Inc. for the Five Points Fire Station
project, all as more fully set forth in the plans and specifications and
contract documents on file in the office of the City Secretary, all of which are
made a part hereof by reference and according to the bid of Ewing Construction
Co., Inc. opened on the 5th day of October 1983, said bid being the lowest and
most advantageous to the City of Corpus Christi.
SECTION 2. That there is hereby authorized Deductive Change Order
No. 1 in the amount of $20,000 providing for specification and building
modifications.
SECTION 3. That there is hereby appropriated $289,500 from the
No. 260 Fire Department Building Bond Fund, of which appropriation $269,500 is
for the contract award and $20,000 from Deductive Change Order No. 1 is for
contingencies, engineering, testing, and related expenses, applicable to Project
No. 260-82-2, Five Points Fire Station.
SECTION 4. That upon written request of the Mayor or five Council
members, copy attached, to find and declare an emergency due to the need to take
immediate action to preserve and protect public property by expediting the
construction of public improvements, such finding of an emergency is made and
declared requiring suspension of the Charter rule as to consideration and voting
upon ordinances or resolutions at three regular meetings so that this ordinance
is passed and shall take effect upon first reading as an emergency measure this
the 9th day of November, 1983.

For the reasons set forth in the emergency clause of the foregoing ordinance
or resolution, an emergency exists requiring suspension of the Charter rule
as to consideration and voting upon ordinances or resolutions at three
regular meetings; I/we, therefore, request that you suspend said Charter rule
and pass this ordinance or resolution finally on the date it is introduced,
or at the present meeting of the City Council.
