HomeMy WebLinkAbout18051 RES - 01/25/1984A RESOLUTION REQUESTING THAT THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI BE DECLARED A DISASTER AREA; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. WHEREAS, the City of Corpus Christi suffered severe weather and freezing temperatures during the latter part of December 1983; and WHEREAS, the severe weather and freezing temperatures resulted in extensive destruction of trees, shrubbery, citrus trees, plants, nursery stock, and other vegetation; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS: SECTION 1. That the City Council of the City of Corpus Christi hereby requests the Small Business Administration to declare the City of Corpus Christi a disaster area due to the destruction of trees, shrubbery, citrus trees, plants, nursery stock, and other vegetation caused by severe weather and freezing temperatures experienced during the latter part of December 1983; and that the support of Governor Mark White and Congressman Solomon Ortiz be requested in obtaining the aforesaid declaration. SECTION 2. That upon written request of the Mayor or five Council members, copy attached, to find and declare an emergency due to the immediate need to request the Small Business Administration to declare the City of Corpus Christi a disaster area as aforementioned at the earliest practicable date, such finding of an emergency is made and declared requiring suspension of the Charter rule as to consideration and voting upon ordinances or resolutions at three regular meetings so that this resolution is passed and shall take effect upon first reading as an emergency measure this the 25th day of January, 1984.
