HomeMy WebLinkAbout18079 ORD - 02/08/1984TEXAS: hereby adding • AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE ZONING ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI BY AMENDING ARTICLE 33, PERMITS, PLATS AND FILING FEES, BY ADDING SUBSECTIONS 33-1.01, 33-1.03, 33-1.05, and 33-3.07; AND AMENDING ARTICLE 11, "AB" P FESSIONAL OFFICE DISTRICT REGULATIONS BY ADDING A NEW SUBSECTION (14); AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, SECTION 1. That the Zoning Ordinance of the City of Corpus Christi is amended by amending Article 33, PERMITS, PLATS, AND FILING FEES, by Subsections 33-1.01, 33-1.03, 33-1.05, and 33-1.07 to read as follows: 33-1.01 - No sign shall be erected, constructed, altered, moved, extended or enlarged without the owner or operator first obtaining a building permit therefore from the Building Inspection Division, such permit' shall require conformity with the provisions of this ordinance. 33-1.03 - Conditional Sign Permits In districts specified in Section 33-1, signage in excess of that allowed by right in a district can be permitted as a conditional use with approval of the Planning Commission. Such use would be judged appropriate upon review of a site plan and sign elevation. The applicant will be required to demonstrate compliance with the guidelines set forth in this ordinance relating to (1) the use, (2) the lot size, (3) the lot frontage, (4) the adjacent uses, (5) the hazard to passing traffic, and (6) the effect on the overall value of the' area. 33-1.05 - Conditional Sign Permit - "AB" District In lieu of the sign(s) allowed by right under Article 11, Section 11.2 (12), one (1) freestanding sign may be erected with a conditional use sign permit. The application far a conditional use sign permit will be reviewed by the Planning Commission to, ascertain,its compliance with the following guidelines MiCROF 1MEL 180179 'SEP 2 8 'aqui Size: Height: One quarter square foot for every front foot of lot with a maximum of 20 square feet. Maximum 15' with ground signs below 3 feet in height considered ideal. The area between 3' and 7' should be left clear for vision if the signs are adjacent to driveways or street intersections. Material: Natural materials which blend with the existing structures. Illumination: None Location on Site: Placement which will least affect street traffic, driveway vision, and adjacent properties. Design: Tasteful signs which add to the desirability of the professional office district' and the surrounding residential uses. 33-3.07 - Any person, firm, or corporation, upon filing a request with the Department of Planning for a conditional permit for a sign as required of Subsection 33-1.01, shall be required to pay in advance the sum of one hundred dollars. SECTION 2. hereby amended by REGULATIONS, by ad hereinafter read as An application for a conditional permit initiated by the City Council, the Planning Commission, or any City Staff member acting in his capacity as, City Staff member shall be without fee. That the Zoning Ordinance of the City of Corpus Christi is amending Article 11, "AB" PROFESSIONAL OFFICE DISTRICT ding a new subsection so that Subsections (14) and (15) follows: (14) In lieu of the sign(s) allowed by right under Article 11, Section 11.2 (12), one (1) freestanding sign identifying a permitted use can be requested under the conditions in Article 33-1. That upon written request of the Mayor or five Council members, copy attached, to find and declare an emergency due to the need for the immediate amendment to the Zoning Ordinance to promote the health, safety, and economic development of the City, such finding of an emergency is made and declared requiring suspension of the Charter rule as to consideration and voting upon ordinances or resolutions at three regular meetings so that this ordinance is passed and shall take effect upon first reading as an emergency measure this the 8th day of February, 1984.
