HomeMy WebLinkAbout18087 RES - 02/14/1984ro A RESOLUTION CALLING FOR THE GRANTING OF A FOREIGN TRADE ZONE PERMIT FOR THE PORT OF CORPUS CHRISTI AUTHORITY; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. WHEREAS, the creation of a Foreign Trade Zone in Corpus Christi will create new jobs through the attraction of new industry, the expansion of existing industry and increased usage of the Port of Corpus Christi; and WHEREAS, the City of Corpus Christi, working in conjunction with the Corpus Christi Chamber of Commerce and the Port of Corpus Christi Authority and other local political leaders, has attempted to create an environment in Corpus Christi conducive to expanding the local economic base, creating new jobs, and providing a better quality of life for all persons within the Texas Coastal Bend; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS: SECTION 1. That the City Council of the City of Corpus Christi unanimously endorses the granting of a Foreign Trade Zone permit for the Port of Corpus Christi and respectively requests that the application process advance in an expeditious manner in order to assure all citizens of Corpus Christi, and its surrounding areas, greater employment opportunities and a better quality of life. SECTION 2. That a copy of this resolution be included as part of the application process for a Foreign Trade Zone permit and be distributed to the appropriate federal agencies. SECTION 3. That upon the written request of the Mayor or five Councilmembers, copy attached, to find and declare an emergency due to the urgent public necessity for establishing a Foreign Trade Zone at the Port of Corpus Christi as soon as possible, such finding of an emergency is made and declared requiring suspension of the Charter rule as to consideration and voting upon ordinances or resolutions at three regular meetings so that this resolution is passed and shall take effect upon its first reading as an emergency measure, this the 15th day of February, 1984.
