AN ORDINANCE
APPROVING CHANGE ORDER NO. 1 TO THE CONTRACT WITH CLAUDE
CHAPMAN CONSTRUCTION COMPANY FOR THE MAIN DRIVE STREET AND
DRAINAGE IMPROVEMENTS PROJECT WHICH PROVIDES FOR OVERSIZING
OF A 48 INCH CONCRETE PIPE STORM SEWER TO A 54 INCH CONCRETE
PIPE STORM SEWER AND PERTINENT WORK; APPROPRIATING $53,285;
AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI,
SECTION 1. That there is hereby approved Change Order No. 1 to the
contract with Claude Chapman Construction Company for the Main Drive Street and
Drainage Improvements Project which provides for oversizing of a 48 inch
concrete pipe storm sewer to a 54 inch concrete pipe storm sewer and pertinent
work, all as more fully set forth in the change order, a substantial copy of
which is attached hereto and made a part hereof, marked Exhibit "A".
SECTION 2. That there is hereby appropriated $53,285 from the No. 295
Storm Sewer Bond Fund.
Section 3. That upon written request of the Mayor or five Council
members, copy attached, to find and declare an emergency due to the need to take
immediate action to preserve and protect public property by expediting the
construction of public improvements, such finding of an emergency is made and
declared requiring suspension of the Charter rule as to consideration and voting
upon ordinances or resolutions at three regular meetings so that this ordinance
is passed and shall take effect upon first reading as an emergency measure this
the 18th day of April, 1984.

(3) Increase the quantity of Item B2 (33 inch RCP) from
510 linear feet to 810 linear feet -
300 L.F. @ $36.50/L.F. 10,950.00
NET CHANGE $ 53,285.00
Why was this change necessary? (If left off the plans and specifications, explain why.)
In order to extend the drainage system to serve the Tuloso Circle - Stillwell Drive area.
it is necessary to increase the pipe size from 48" to 54" and add additional 33" pipe
to extend from Main Drive to Stillwell Street along Leopard Street.
How can similar changes be avoided in the future? Unavoidable
