HomeMy WebLinkAbout18195 RES - 04/25/1984RESOLUTION ADOPTING THE OFFICIAL PLAN SUBMITTED BY THE NUECES COUNTY/ CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI SESQUICENTENNIAL COMMITTEE FOR THE COMMEMORATION OF THE 150TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE STATE OF TEXAS; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Corpus Christi fully supports the celebration of Texas' 250 years of independence and desires to participate in the 1986 Sesquicentennial Celebration; and WHEREAS, the City of Corpus Christi and Nueces County has appointed a committee to coordinate and plan Sesquicentennial activities for the City of Corpus Christi/Nueces County; and WHEREAS, the Sesquicentennial Committee has prepared a plan containing projects that highlight Corpus Christi and Nueces Countys' past, present, and future that help insure participation by all segments of the community; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OR CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS: SECTION 1. That the Sesquicentennial Plan be approved as submitted. SECTION 2. Further, that the plan be submitted to the State of Texas Sesquicentennial Commission for official evaluation with the goal of receiving a sanction as an Independence Community. SECTION 3. That the Council affirms its commitment to making the Sesquicentennial celebration in Corpus Christi and Nueces County a successful endeavor. SECTION 4. That upon written request of the Mayor or five Council members, copy attached, to find and declare an emergency due to the immediate need for efficient and effective administration of City affairs by adopting the aforementioned plan submitted by the Nueces County/City of Corpus Christi Sesquicentennial Committee at the earliest possible date, such finding of an emergency is made and declared requiring suspension of the Charter rule as to consideration and voting upon ordinances or resolutions at three regular meetings so that this resolution is passed and shall take effect upon first reading as an emergency measure this the 25th day of April, 1984.
