HomeMy WebLinkAbout18334 RES - 07/17/1984RESOLUTION WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Corpus Christi recognizes the economic impact of the military activities in this area; and WHEREAS, the City Council also recognizes the role and importance of such military activities in the National Defense; and WHEREAS, the City Council has supported Naval and other military activities in this area; and WHEREAS, the City Council continues to strongly support such activities and encourages their expansion; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS: SECTION 1. That the City Council of the City of Corpus Christi strongly recommends that the U.S. Department of the Navy continues to consider the Corpus Christi area as a possible location for a Battleship Surface Action Group. SECTION 2. That the City of Corpus Christi pledges to support the efforts of the United States Navy in such an endeavor. SECTION 3. That if given the opportunity, the City of Corpus Christi will submit a proposal requesting consideration as a site for the location of a Battleship Surface Action Group. SECTION 4. That when the application is submitted, the City of Corpus Christi will cooperate with other local units of government and organizations and will look to the Corpus Christi Chamber of Commerce as the single source contact and coordinative arm for the Corpus Christi area in such endeavor. SECTION 5. That upon written request of the Mayor or five Council members, copy attached, to find and declare an emergency due to the desire of the Council to express its recommendation concerning the possible location for a Battleship Surface Action Group at the earliest practicable date, such finding of an emergency is made and declared requiring suspension of the Charter rule as to consideration and voting upon ordinances or resolutions at three regular meetings so that this resolution is passed and shall take effect upon first reading as an emergency measure this the 17th day of July, 1984.
