AUTHORIZING THE EXECUTION OF A CONTRACT WITH B. E. BEECROFT
COMPANY FOR RESTORATION OF THE GALVAN HOUSE AND A CONTRACT
WITH SALAZAR CONSTRUCTION COMPANY FOR CONSTRUCTION OF
MULTICULTURAL CENTER SITE IMPROVEMENTS; APPROPRIATING
$780,701 FROM THE MULTICULTURAL CENTER BOND FUND; AND
DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI,
TEXAS:
SECTION 1. That the City Manager is hereby authorized to execute a
contract with B. E. Beecroft Company in the amount of $298,720 for restoration
of the Galvan House and a contract with Salazar Construction Company in the
amount of $391,750 for construction of Multicultural Center site improvements,
all as more fully set forth in the plans and specifications and contract
documents on file in the office of the City Secretary, all of which are made a
part hereof by reference and according to the bids of B. E. Beecroft Company and
Salazar Construction Company, said bids being the lowest and most advantageous
to the City of Corpus Christi.
SECTION 2. That there is hereby appropriated $780,701 out of the
Multicultural Center Bond Fund.
SECTION 3. That upon written request of the Mayor or five Council
members, copy attached, to find and declare an emergency due to the need to take
immediate action to preserve and protect public property by expediting the
construction of public improvements, such finding of an emergency is made and
declared requiring suspension of the Charter rule as to consideration and voting
upon ordinances or resolutions at three regular meetings so that this ordinance
is passed and shall take effect upon first reading as an emergency measure this
the 17th day of July, 1984.

or resolution, an emergency exists requiring suspension of the Charter rule
as to consideration and voting upon ordinances or resolutions at three
regular meetings; I/we, therefore, request that you suspend said Charter rule
and pass this ordinance or resolution finally on the date it is introduced,
or at the present meeting of the City Council.
