WHEREAS, the current drought has indicated the need for alternative
water supply sources for Corpus Christi and its customers; and
WHEREAS, an ad hoc Water Commission composed of citizens is currently
studying the short and long term options with staff; and
WHEREAS, based on data from other cities and engineering studies, any
alternatives of consequence whether they be desalting/water reuse or pipelines
are going to involve the expenditure of large sums of money in the range of 50
to 100 million dollars:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS:
That it goes on record supporting expenditures for this purpose and
stands ready to take the necessary steps to fund such projects.
Be it further resolved that the City Council stands ready to make
these interim expenditures necessary to supplement our current supply.

For the reasons set forth'in the emergency clause of the foregoing ordinance
or resolution, an emergency exists requiring suspension of the Charter rule
as to consideration and voting upon ordinances or resolutions at three
regular meetings; I/we, therefore, request that you suspend said Charter rule
and pass this ordinance or resolution finally on the date it is introduced,
or at the present meeting of the City Council.
