HomeMy WebLinkAbout18430 RES - 08/21/1984RESOLUTION OF INTENT WHEREAS, nature has dealt our City two severe but not fatal blows in the past year; and WHEREAS, the hard freeze in December and the continued drought has diminished some of the sparkle in our Sparkling City By The Sea; and WHEREAS, our citizens are to be commended for having rallied to this challenge by starting the Palms Up project to replace our dead palms, and are adhering to the water conservation allocations in order to preserve this precious resource; and WHEREAS, the City is committed to taking whatever action is required to insure the continued availability of water for our citizens; and WHEREAS, it is imperative that it be made known, both here at home and to the rest of our State and Nation, that Corpus Christi is, and always will be, the place to be; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS: SECTION 1. That the City Council reaffirm its continuing efforts to support the economic development of our City to the extent of our natural resources by the attracting of new industry, the expansion of existing industry and commercial development through guided growth, the creation of new jobs, and the broadening of the tax base. AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED: SECTION 2. That the City Council renew and strengthen its efforts to protect our unique environment and expand the quality of life so essential to the enjoyment of our citizens and our visitors as well. SECTION 3. That upon written request of the Mayor or five Council Members, copy attached, to find and declare an emergency due to the desire of the Council to express its intent at the earliest practical date, such finding of an emergency is made and declared requiring suspension of the Charter Rule as to consideration and voting upon ordinances or resolutions at three regular meetings so that this resolution is passed and shall take effect upon first reading as an emergency measure this the 21st day of August, 1984.
