HomeMy WebLinkAbout18497 RES - 10/09/1984A RESOLUTION WHEREAS, the Junior League of Corpus Christi has for the past nine years (since 1976) sponsored the annual Bayfest celebration during the month of September, which event has provided the opportunity for the citizens of Corpus Christi and South Texas to enjoy a three-day outdoor fun festival; and WHEREAS, the Junior League has been responsible for providing excellent entertainment, wholesome food and beverages and the opportunity for display of arts and crafts of local and area citizens; and WHEREAS, the Bayfest celebration has been a success from its inception, due to the diligent planning on the part of the Junior League and cooperation of the participants; and WHEREAS, special thanks should be extended to Athena Cablevision of Corpus Christi for bringing the Disney characters to Bayfest this year and for sponsoring a program that was especially enjoyable to the children and to the families who came to participate in the festivities; and WHEREAS, it is the desire of this City Council to extend a heartfelt "thank you" to the Junior League for their continuing sponsorship of Bayfest: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS: SECTION 1. That this City Council, on behalf of a grateful community, wishes to extend and express its appreciation to the Junior League of Corpus Christi for the successful Bayfest celebration just concluded and to commend the members for their diligence and hard work in planning and sponsoring the three-day funfest. SECTION 2. That a copy of this resolution be presented to the Junior League of Corpus Christi as a token of appreciation. SECTION 3. That upon written request of the Mayor or five Council members, copy attached, to find and declare an emergency due to the immediate desire of the City Council to show their appreciation for the diligence and hard work of the Junior League in promoting Bayfest, such finding of an emergency is made and declared requiring suspension of the Charter rule as to consideration and voting upon ordinances or resolutions at three regular meetings so that this resolution is passedAnd shall take effect upon first reading as an emergency measure this the 9 day of October, 1984.
