WHEREAS, Gabriel Lozano, Sr., a lifelong resident and member of a
well-known Corpus Christi family. was on November 29, 1984, called to his
eternal rest; and
WHEREAS, Gabriel Lozano, Sr. will be remembered In Corpus Christi as
dedicated citizen and tireless leader in civic and religious activities, among
those being the following• member of the Lion's Club, Serra Club International,
Knights of Columbus, St. Cyril 8 Methodius Church, Knife and Fork Club, 39ers
Citizens Alert, Sunset Optimist Club. Sertoma Noon Club; Amigos de Mexico,
Corpus Christi Chamber of Commerce and Board of Directors, Buccaneer Commission
and Red Carpet Committee; International Good Neighbor Council, Board of
Directors of The Corpus Christi Tourist Bureau and Advertising Club; and member
of the Board of Realtors on the local, state and national levels. Mr Lozano
also s ved on the American Red Cross. the Disaster Committee, the Traffic
Safety Board of the City. Park Commissioner and an the Padre Island Park Board,
member of the Human Relations Commission and of the Park and Recreation Board of
the City, and
WHEREAS, Gabriel Lozano, following in his father's footsteps, devoted
his time to bettering the working and educational conditions of the
Mexican -Americans of this area, and
WHEREAS, Mr Lozano w s instrumentali n forming the South Texas
C
Telecasting Company which in 1954 received alicense to operate 8900,
Channel 22, thus pioneering television 1n Corpus Christi; and, was also
instrumental in forming International Radio Co., which in 1954 was granted the
license to operate Radio Station KCCT, and
WHEREAS, Gabriel Lozano, Sr; served as General Manager and Executive

Vire President of Radio Station ngCT; and was also - member of the Board of
Directors of South Texas Telecasting Corporation, K111 -TV, Channel 3; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Lozano was also instrumental in formation of the Nueces
National Bank and served as a member of the Board of Directors, and
WHEREAS, in addition to the many organizations listed above. he served
for fourteen years on the Corpus Christi City Council, first having been elected
n 1959 and again in 1967 and in subsequent elections, serving until 1979. He
as the first Mexican -American Mayor Pro -Tem, having been elected unanimously by
the City Council in May, 1969 to that position, and was named the first
Mexican -American Mayor of the City of Corpus Christi in February, 1978 He
served in that capacity until May 1, 1979, when In recognition of his dedicated
service he was appointed to the position of Mayor Emeritus, and
WHEREAS, his devotion to the discharge of the duties of his various
offices with dignity, kindness and unselfishness has benefitted innumerable
people, and his passing i a great loss to the citizens of the City ofCorpus
Christi as well as to his family and his many friends, leaving an irreplaceable
void in the community

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS
SECTION 1 That this brief record of the many accomplishments of
Gabriel Lozano, Sr., be recalled and that the citizens of this community ,loin in
mourning the lass of this valuable citizen.
SECTION 2. That a copy of this Resolution be forwarded to the family
of Gabriel Lozano, Sr.

For the reasons set forth in the emergency clause of the foregoing ordinance
or resolution, an emergency exists requiring Suspension of the Charter rule
as to consideration and voting upon ordinances or resolutions at three
regular meetings: I/we, therefore, request that you suspend said Charter rule
and pass this ordinance or resolution finally on the date it is Introduced,
or at the present meeting of the City Council
