PRESCRIBING THE METHOD BY WHICH THE CITY COUNCIL SHALL
SELECT THE MAYOR PRO TEM; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.
WHEREAS, Task force IV, the Government Charter Revision Committee of
Corpus Christi '90, has unanimously recommended that the selection of the mayor
pro tem be based upon the council member elected receiving the highest number of
votes in the general election

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
TEV
SECTION I That at the first meeting of the City Council after the
induction of the newly elected mayor and council members into office, the City
Council shall in accordance with Article II, Section 4 of the City Charter
nominate and confirm one of the c uncil members who shall be known and
designated as mayor pro -tem, which nomination and confirmation shall be based
upon the council member receiving the highest number of votes in the general
election.
SECTION 2. That at the next Charter Revision election an amendment to
the City Charter be considered amending Article II, Section 4 of the City
Charter to provide for the designation as mayor pro tem of the council member
elected receiving the highest number of votes in the general election.
SECTION 3. That upon written request of the Mayor or five Council
members, copy attached, to find and declare an emergency due to the need far
efficient and effective administration of City affairs by adopting the
aforementioned method of selecting the mayor pro tem, such finding of a
emergency is made and declared requiring suspension of the Charter rule as to
consideration and voting upon ordinances or resolutions at three regular
meetings so that this resolution is passed and shell take effect upon first
reading as an emergency measure this the 8th day of January, 1985.

or resolution, an emergency exists requiring suspension of the Charter rule
s to consideration and voting upon ordinances or esolutions at three
regular meetings; 1/00, therefore, request that you suspend said Charter rule
and pass this ordinance or
resolution finally on the date It is introduced,
or at the present meeting ofthe City Council.
