HomeMy WebLinkAbout18656 RES - 01/15/1985A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING LEGISLATION WHICH PROHIBITS OR RESTRICTS "HAPPY HOURS", AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. thret to ',2M' sPry taosmdaay ucnte drngria inga and - WHEREAS, promotional activities aimed solely at encouraging excessive drinking, as opposed to other kinds of promotional activities, should be discouraged,and WHEREAS, the number of accidents and in,lunes on the State's highways and streets is largely attributable to drivers who have been drinking alcoholic beverages; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS) SECTION 1. The City Council strongly supports legislation by the Texas Legislature to prohibit or restrict practices and/or promotional activities which encourage the consumption of large quantities of alcoholic beverages within a short period of time. Among those practices of alcoholic beverage licensees and permitees which should be prohibited or restricted are. (a) offering or delivering free drinks to customers; (b) delivering more than two drinks to a customer at one time, (c) selling, offering to sell, or delivering to any person drinks at a price less than the price regularly charged for such drinks; (0) selling, offering to sell, or delivering to any person unlimited nueber of drinks during any set period of time for a fixed price; (e) s lung, offering to sell, er delivering drinks by the pitcher, except to two or more persons at any one time; (f) Increasing the volume of alcoholic beverages contained in a drink without increasing proportionately the pn ce regularly charged for such drink; (0) a uraging o any licensed or permitted premises any game o0, i volving drinking or [he awarding of drinks as prizes, and n advertising or promoting to any way any of the practices described above. The City Council of the City of Corpus Christi strongly urges the Legislature of the State of Texas to pas appropriate legislation prohibiting or restricting such activities described above.
