ORDERING AN ELECTION FOR MAYOR AND COUNCIL MEMBERS IN THE
CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS, TO BE BELO ON THE 6TH DAY OF
APRIL, 1985, DESIGNATING POLLING PLACE LOCATIONS, ENACTING
PROVISIONS INCIDENT AND RELATING TO THE SUBJECT AND PURPOSE
OF THIS ORDINANCE; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.

WHEREAS, It Is provided in Article 4.06 of the Texas State Election
Code that the governing body shall order elections pertaining to municipal
affairs. give notice and appoint election officers to hold the election
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS.

SECTION 2. That at said election herein ordered all the qualified
voters of the City of Corpus Christi shall be permitted to vote
SECTION 3. That the names of candidates for the office of Mayor and
the names
of candidates for the office of the City Council members shall be
placed on said ballot In the manner and form prescrIbed by law
SECTION 4. That voting machines shall be employed at the election

and published and that a regular City election for the election of the Mayor and
Council members in the City of Corpus Christi shall be held on the first
Saturday in April, 1985, and that the requirements of the Federal Voting Rights
Act may be timely met, creates a public emergency and an imperative public
necessity requiring the suspension of the Charter rule that no ordinance o
resolution shall be passed finally on the date of its introduction but that such
ordinance or esolution shall be read at three several meetings of the City
Council, and the Mayor, having declared that such emergency and necessity exist,
having requested the suspension of the Charter rule and that this ordinance be
passed finally on the date of its introduction and take effect and be in full
force and effect from and after its passage, IT IS ACCORDINGLY S0 ORDAINED, this
the 12th day of February, 1985.
