HomeMy WebLinkAbout18706 RES - 02/19/1985i1.O17,02 A RESOLUTION WHEREAS, Roy Monroe Hurt was the Assistant Gas Superintendent for the City of Corpus Christi from June 16, 1948 until his passing on January 25, 1985, a period of almost 37 years, and WHEREAS Roy Hurt performed inan r exemplary manner and to a large degree s responsible for the smooth, efficient, and safe operation of the City's Gas Division serving the gas needs of the entire City of Carpus Christi, and WHEREAS, Roy Hurt, as a member of the Texas Gas Association, frequently worked with representatives of gas systers throughout Texas particularly those operating small gas systems, assisting them in operating efficient and safe gas distribution systems, especially to significantly reduce gas loss through leakage, and WHEREAS, Roy Hurt was well respected and admired by his superiors, peers, and subordinates alike, and was renowned for his refreshing frankness and his truly remarkable sense of humor; NOW, CORPUS CHRISTI, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TEXAS. SECTION 1. That Roy Hurt should be and is hereby recognized for his outstanding performance as Assistant Gas Superintendent for the City's Gas Division for a period spanning almost 37 years. SECTION 2. That his accomplishments as a professional engineer should be and are hereby acknowledged. SECTION 3 That his truly remarkable personality and leadership style and his refreshingly sharp sense of humor will be truly missed. SECTION 4. That the City Council extends its deepest sympathy to the family of Roy Hurt and expresses its gratitude to his family members for sharing him with all the citizens of this community over the past 07 years. SECTION 5. That upon written request of the Mayor or five Council members, copy attached, to find and declare an emergency due to the need to express the City's recognition of the accomplishments of Roy Hurt and to express its condolences to the Roy Hurt family, such finding of an emergency is made and declared requiring suspension of the Charter rules to consideration and voting upon ordinances or resolutions at three regular meetings so that this resolution is passed and shall take effect upon first reading as an emergency measure this /9,1-1,day of February, 1985.
