HomeMy WebLinkAbout18725 RES - 03/05/1985.060.01 ^ A RESOLUTION COMMENDING CENTRAL POWER AND LIGHT COMPANY FOR ITS DECISION NOT TO BURN PCBs WITHIN THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. WHEREAS, Central Power and Light Company had determined that the best way to destroy PCBs (polychlorinated biphenyl) that were nlonger usable or useful in their operations would be by burning them to the vicinity of the Lon C. Hill Power Plant; and WHEREAS, in response to the concerns voiced by members of the City Council, neighborhood groups and petitionscirculated by citizens concerned with potential health hazards that might result from the burning of the aforesaid PCBs, Central Power and Light Company has reached the decision not to burn these materials in the City of Corpus Christi or in the vicinity of the Lon C. Hill Power Plant NOW, THEREFORE, GE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS SECTION 1. That Central Power and Light Company be commended for its responsiveness to public concern demonstrated by its decision not to burn PCBs within the City of Corpus Christi, and in particular in the vicinity of the Lon C. Hill Power Plant. SECTION 2. That upon written request of the Mayor or five Council members, copy attached, to find and declare an mergency due to the desire of the City Council to express its appreciation to Central Power and Light Company at the earliest opportunity, such finding of an emergency is made and declared requiring suspension of the Charter rule as to consideration and voting upon ordinances or esolutions at three regular meetings so that this resolution is passed and shall take effect upon first reading as an emergency measure this the 5th day of March, 1985.
