AN ORDINANCE
AMENDING THE CIVIL SERVICE BOARD RULES AND REGULATIONS,
ARTICLE IV, SECTION 6, WITH REFERENCE TO EMPLOYEES DISABLED
FOR REASONS UNRELATED TO THEIR EMPLOYMENT; AND DECLARING AN
EMERGENCY.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI,
SECTION 1. That the Civil Service Board Rules and Regulations,
Article IV, Section 6, is hereby amended to hereinafter read as follows:
Section 6. Employees who are disabled for reasons unrelated
to their employment will be automatically terminated from
employment at such time as all accumulated sick leave and
vacation plus 15 days or other leave has been exhausted.
Thereafter, for a period of one year including any leave
other than accumulated sick leave or vacation leave,
employees terminated as a result of non -job related
disability may be reinstated into employment, after proper
medical confirmation of ability to work safely, to the first
available position of equal or lower rank or classification
to that held at the time of termination. Where more than
one year has passed since termination of employment, such
employee shall be treated as any other job applicant..
SECTION 2. That upon written request of the Mayor or five Council
members, copy attached, to find and declare an emergency due to the need for the
efficient administration of City affairs, such finding of an emergency is made
and declared requiring suspension of the Charter rule as to consideration and
voting upon ordinances or resolutions at three regular meetings so that this
ordinance is passed and shall take effect upon first reading as an emergency
measure this the 30th day of April, 1985.

For the reasons set forth in the emergency clause of the foregoing,ordinance
or resolution, an emergency exists requiring suspension of the Charter rule
as to consideration and voting upon ordinances or resolutions at three
regular meetings; I/we, therefore, request that you suspend said Charter rule
and pass this ordinance or resolution finally on the date it is introduced,
or at the present meeting of the City Council.
