AUTHORIZING THE EXECUTION OF A TWO YEAR EXTENSION THE
AGREEMENTS WITH THE CORPUS CHRISTI INDEPENDE SCHOOL
DISTRICT AND CORPUS CHRISTI JUNIOR COLLEGE DISTRICT FOR THE
COLLECTION OF AD VALOREM TAXES; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI,
TEXAS:
SECTION 1. That the City Manager is hereby authorized to execute a
two year extension to the agreements with the Corpus Christi Independent School
District and Corpus Christi Junior College District for the collection of ad
valorem taxes, all as more fully set forth in the contracts, substantial copies
of which are attached hereto and made a part hereof, marked Exhibits "A" and
"Bu
SECTION 2. That upon written request of the Mayor or five Council
members, copy attached, to find and declare emergency due to the need of
executing the abovementioned at the earliest pr ticable date, such finding of
an emergency is made and declared requiring sus nsion of the Charter rule as to
consideration and voting upon ordinances or solutions at three regular
meetings so that this ordinance is passed and shall take effect upon first
reading as an emergency measure this the 2nd day of July, 1985.

WHEREAS, by agreement effective from and after December 1, 1959, and
extended from time to time by agreement, the Corpus Christi Independent School
District and the City of Corpus Christi entered into an agreement for the City
Tax Assessor -Collector to assess and collect taxes for the District; and
WHEREAS, the Corpus Christi Independent School District and City of
Corpus Christi agreed to extend and amend the terms of the contract heretofore
entered into so as to make the same effective through August 31, 1985, as to
collection of ad valorem taxes;
WHEREAS, the Corpus Christi Independent School District and the City
of Corpus Christi have agreed to extend said agreement for collection of ad
valorem taxes as heretofore extended for a period of two (2) years commencing
September 1, 1985, and ending August 31, 1987, subject to the right of either
party to give notice as provided in said contracts to sooner terminate said
contract; and
WHEREAS, the City of Corpus Christi has an identical contract for
collection of ad valorem taxes with the Corpus Christi Junior College District
and the costs for such collection is shared among all three agencies;
NOW, THEREFORE, for and in consideration of the payments, services and
covenants herein, it is mutually agreed as follows;
Effective from and after September 1, 1985, the City of Corpus Christi
acting by and through its Tax Assessor -Collector and the Joint Tax Office shall
act as tax assessor and collector and collect ad valorem taxes for the Corpus
Christi Independent School District as provided by Article 6.24, Texas Property
Tax Code, and Article 4413 (32c) Revised Civil Statutes of Texas, for a term of
two (2) years, commencing on September 1, 1985, and ending August 31, 1987. The
terms and conditions of this agreement are identical to the terms of the
agreement heretofore existing between the City of Corpus Christi and the Corpus
Christi Independent School District effective from and after November 25, 1959
and as extended from time to time and as amended effective January 1, 1982, and
amended effective September 1, 1984 except as follows:
The City of Corpus Christi is authorized to contract for the
employment of an attorney for the collection of delinquent taxes pursuant to
Section 6.30 of the Texas Property Tax Code. The expense and cost of hiring
said attorney shall be allocated according to the terms of said contract.
It is agreed that the operating expenses of the Joint Tax Office be
shared by the taxing units utilizing such office by allocating 15 percent of the
total cost of the Joint Tax Office according to the number of accounts of each
District, hereinafter called "Buy In Fee"; with the remaining 85 percent being

shared 50 percent by the City, 42.5 percent by Corpus Christi Independent School
District; and 7.5 percent by the Corpus Christi Junior College District,
hereinafter called "Current Formula"; such operating expenses to thus be shared
as follows:

For the reasons set forth in the emergency clause of the foregoing ordinance
or resolution, an emergency exists requiring suspension of the Charter rule
as to consideration and voting upon ordinances or resolutions at three
regular meetings; I/we, therefore, request that you suspend said Charter rule
and pass this ordinance or resolution finally on the date it is introduced,
or at the present meeting of the City Council.
