HomeMy WebLinkAbout18911 RES - 07/02/1985A RESOLUTION AGREEING TO INCLUDE IN THE CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT BOND REFERENDUM ANTICIPATED FOR 1986, AT LEAST $1,300,000 FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF AN ADDITION TO THE CORPUS CHRISTI MUSEUM; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Corpus Christi through its official action on June 18, 1985, requested that the Texas Antiquities Committee designate the Corpus Christi Museum as the depository for the artifacts from the Spanish Shipwreck found off Padre Island, known as the Platoro/Keenan/Purvis Collection; and WHEREAS, the Texas Antiquities Committee entrusted the San Esteban Collection of artifacts to the Corpus Christi Museum under an agreement executed March 19, 1984; and WHEREAS, the City Council wishes to give the Texas Antiquities Committee assurance of their good faith efforts to fund the construction of an addition to the Museum suitable to house the Shipwreck Collections; and WHEREAS, the Museum Advisory Board is proposing to raise funds from private sources to supplement public funding of the construction of an addition to the Corpus Christi Museum for exhibit, storage laboratory, and support areas for the Shipwreck Collections. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS: SECTION 1. That the City Council will include in the Capital Improvement Bond Referendum to be proposed to the voters in early 1986, at least $1,300,000 to fund the construction of an Archeology Wing onto the Corpus Christi Museum to house the San Esteban and Platoro/Keenan/Purvis Collections. SECTION 2. That the City Council will support the passage of the bond proposition and the fund raising activities of the Museum Advisory Board. SECTION 3. That the City Secretary is hereby authorized and directed to forward a certified copy of this resolution to the Texas Antiquities Committee at Austin, Texas. SECTION 4. That upon written request of the Mayor or five Council members, copy attached, to find and declare an emergency because of the necessity to establish the Archeology Wing of the Museum as a priority for the Capital Improvement Bond Program, such emergency made and declare requires suspension of the Charter rule as to consideration and voting upon ordinances or resolutions at three regular meetings so that this resolution is passed and 03P.081.01 18911 MICROFILMED • shall take effect upon first reading as an emergency measure this 2nd day of July, 1985.
