ENDORSING THE PASSAGE OF THE CONFIRMATION AND
TAX ELECTION FOR THE CORPUS CHRISTI REGIONAL
TRANSIT AUTHORITY AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY
WHEREAS, the CORPUS CHRISTI REGIONAL TRANSIT AUTHORITY
(the "Authority") was created by Resolution duly adopted by
the City Council of the City of Corpus Christi, Texas on June
12, 1984; and
WHEREAS, the Interim Board of the Authority was duly appointed
by said City Council and has conducted such meetings and obtained
such information as it determined to be necessary in order to
deem implementation of the Authority feasible; and
WHEREAS, the City Council has determined that implementation
of the Authority is in the best interests of the City and that
the passage of the confirmation and tax election for the Authority
will affirm the selection of the South Texas area as Homeport
for the USS Wisconsin and USS Lexington and further serve to
tie the Corpus Christi region together;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS:
SECTION 1. That the City Council of the City of Corpus
Christi, Texas endorses the passage of the confirmation and
tax election for the Corpus Christi Regional Transit Authority
scheduled for Saturday, August 10, 1985.
SECTION 2. That upon written request of the Mayor or five
Council members, copy attached, to find and declare an emergency
due to the emergency in public funding for transit services and
the urgent public necessity for developing a reliable transportation
system for the people of the Corpus Christi region, such finding
of an emergency is made and declared requiring suspension of
the Charter rule as to consideration and voting upon ordinances
or resolutions at three regular meetings so that this resolution
is passed and shall take effect upon first reading as an emergency

For the reasons set forth in the emergency clause of the foregoing ordinance
or resolution, an emergency exists requiring suspension of the Charter rule
as to consideration andvoting upon ordinances or resolutions at three
regular meetings; I/we, therefore, request that you suspend said Charter rule
and pass this ordinance or resolution finally on the date it is introduced,
or at the present meeting of the City Council.
