AN ORDINANCE
AUTHORIZING THE EXECUTION OF A CONTRACT WITH CLAUDE CHAPMAN
CONSTRUCTION CO., INC. FOR THE INSTALLATION OF A 21 -INCH
DIAMETER TRUNK SANITARY SEWER IN SOUTH STAPLES STREET FROM
TIMBERGATE DRIVE TO THE NORTH BOUNDARY LINE OF BUCKINGHAM
ESTATES SUBDIVISION; APPROPRIATING $560,000; AND DECLARING
AN EMERGENCY.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI,
TEXAS:
SECTION 1. That the City Manager is hereby authorized to execute a
contract with Claude Chapman Construction Co., Inc. for the installation of a
21 -inch diameter trunk sanitary sewer in South Staples Street from Timbergate
Drive to the north boundary line of Buckingham Estates Subdivision, all as more
fully set forth in plans and specifications and contract documents on file in
the office of the City Secretary, all of which are made a part hereof by
reference and according to the bid of Claude Chapman Construction Co., Inc. said
bid being the lowest and most advantageous to the City of Corpus Christi.
SECTION 2. That there is hereby appropriated $342,851 from the
No. 250 Sanitary Sewer Bond Fund and $217,149 from the No. 145-247.95 Sanitary
Sewer Trunk Line Trust Fund, for a total appropriation of $560,000 of which
$492,205 is for the contract award and $67,795 is for additional engineering,
contingencies, and incidental and related expenses applicable to Project
No. 250-82-6.2, South Staples Sanitary Sewer Extension, Phase II.
SECTION 3. That upon written request of the Mayor or five Council
members, copy attached, to find and declare an emergency due to the need to take
immediate action to preserve and protect public property by expediting the
construction of public improvements, such finding of an emergency is made and
declared requiring suspension of the Charter rule as to consideration and voting
upon ordinances or resolutions at three regular meetings so that this ordinance
is passed and shall take effect upon first reading as an emergency measure this
the 23rd day of July, 1985.

For the reasons set forth in the emergency clause of the foregoing ordinance
or resolution, an emergency exists requiring suspension of the Charter rule
as to consideration and voting upon ordinances or resolutions at three
regular meetings; I/we, therefore, request that you suspend said Charter rule
and pass this ordinance or resolution finally on the date it is introduced,
or at the present meeting of the City Council.
