AMENDING CHAPTER 2, ADMINISTRATION, SECTION 2-151, STEERING
COMMITTEE, OF THE CITY CODE OF ORDINANCES TO REDUCE THE
NUMBER OF MEMBERS ON THE STEERING COMMITTEE OF THE SISTER
CITY COMMITTEE FROM 25 TO 15; THAT SAID REDUCTION OCCUR BY
ATTRITION AS SET FORTH IN THE ORDINANCE; PROVIDING FOR
SEVERANCE; AND PROVIDING FOR PUBLICATION.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI,
TEXAS:
SECTION 1. That Section 2-151, Steering Committee, of Chapter 2,
Administration, of the City Code of Ordinances is hereby amended by reducing the
number of members on the steering committee of the Sister City Committee to
fifteen (15) so that said Section 2-151 shall hereafter read as follows:
"Sec. 2-151. Steering committee.
The sister city committee shall consist of a steering
committee and various subcomittees.
The steering committee shall consist of fifteen (15) members
who shall be broadly representative of the racial, religious
and ethnic groups in the community. The members shall be
appointed by the ciy council and shall serve three-year
terms or until their successors are appointed and qualified.
The steering committee shall be responsible for the overall
administration and implemention of the city's sister city
program."
SECTION 2. In order to carry out the reduction in membership from
twenty-five (25) members to fifteen (15) members, the Council will not fill
positions which (A) are currently vacant, (B) after the passage of this
ordinance become vacant by reason of resignation, death or excessive member
absence, or (C) are held by an existing member whose term has expired and who
does not wish to be reappointed, until the membership reaches fifteen (15) in
number.
SECTION 3. If for any reason any section, paragraph, subdivision,
clause, phrase, word or provision of this ordinance shall be held invalid or
unconstitutional by final judgment of a court of competent jurisdiction, it
shall not affect any other section, paragraph, subdivision, clause, phrase, word
or provision of this ordinance for it is the definite intent of this City
Council that every section, paragraph, subdivision, clause, phrase, word or
provision hereof be given full force and effect for its purpose.
SECTION 4. Publication shall be made one time in the official
publication of the City of Corpus Christi by publishing the caption stating in
substance the purpose of the ordinance, this ordinance to become effective upon
such publication.
