APPROVING A RESOLUTION CONFIRMING THE CITY'S COMMITMENT
TO THE DEVELOPMENT OF RUBEN ALMANZA PARK AND THE
DEVELOPMENT OF ALL NEIGHBORHOOD PARKS THROUGHOUT THE
CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.
WHEREAS, Sergeant Ruben Almanza served proudly in the Corpus Christi
Police Department and gave his life in defense of the citizens of Corpus
Christi, Texas;

WHEREAS, the City Council dedicated a public park in honor of Sergeant
WHEREAS, the improvement of City parks enhances the quality of life in
the City of Corpus Christi;
WHEREAS, the City is dedicated to the development and maintenance of
all City parks including Sergeant Ruben Almanza Park;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS:
SECTION 1. That the City Council directs City staff to utilize all
resources available of both public and private nature leading to the further
development of all parks including Sergeant Ruben Almanza Park to accomplish. the
goals of providing both expanded recreation activities for the neighborhoods
surrounding parks and to further honor Sergeant Ruben Almanza.
SECTION 2. That upon written request of the Mayor or five Council
members, copy attached, to find and declare an emergency due to the desire of
the City Council to expedite the development of the aforementioned parks, such
finding of an emergency is made and declared requiring suspension of the Charter
rule as to consideration and voting upon ordinances or resolutions at three
regular meetings so that this resolution is passed and shall take effect upon
first reading as an emergency measure this the 13th day of August, 1985.

For the reasons set forth in the emergency clause of the foregoing ordinance
or resolution, an emergency exists requiring suspension of the Charter rule
as to consideration and voting upon ordinances or resolutions at three
regular meetings; I/we, therefore, request that you suspend said Charter rule
and pass this ordinance or resolution finally on the date it is introduced,
or at the present meeting of the City Council.
