AN ORDINANCE
AMENDING CHAPTER 57, VEHICLES FOR HIRE, OF THE CITY OF
ORDINANCES, BY REPEALING SECTION 57-135,
FARES --AMOUNTS, AND IN LIEU THEREOF, ADOPTING NEN
PROVISIONS FOR SAID SECTION 57-135, BY ESTABLISHING THE
TAXICAB RATES HEREINAFTER SET FORTH; PROVIDING FOR
SEVERANCE; AND PROVIDING FOR PUBLICATION.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI,
TEXAS:
SECTION 1. That Section 57-135, Fares -Amounts, of Chapter 57,
Vehicles for Hire, is hereby amended to read as follows:
"There is hereby established as the rates of fare for
taxicabs within the city limits of the City of Corpus
Christi for one or more persons, not exceeding five
persons, of $1.25 for the first one-fifth (1/5) mile or
less, and $.20 additional for each succeeding one-fifth
(1/5) mile or fraction thereof.
For each one hour of waiting time, the maximum charge
shall be twelve dollars ($12.00), accumulated in
increments of twenty cents ($.20) per minute.
The above established rates of fare are the maximum
that may be charged. Lower rates of fare may be
charged at the option of the Taxicab Certificate
Holder.
SECTION 2. If for any reason any section, paragraph,
subdivision, clause, phrase, word or provision of this ordinance shall be
held invalid or unconstitutional by final judgment of a court of competent
jurisdiction, it shall not affect any other section, paragraph,
subdivision, clause, phrase, word or provision of this ordinance for it is
the definite intent of this City Council that every section, paragraph,
subdivision, clause, phrase, word or provision hereof be given full force
and effect for its purpose.
SECTION 3. Publication shall be made one time in the official
publication of the City of Corpus Christi by publishing the caption stating
in substance the purpose of the ordinance, this ordinance to become
effective upon publication. A taxicab may not charge rates which exceed
its metered rates.
