HomeMy WebLinkAbout19065 RES - 10/22/1985• a A RESOLUTION WHEREAS, on March 12, 1941, the United States Naval Air Station was established in the City of Corpus Christi; and WHEREAS, for over forty-four years, the Navy has been a vital and integral segment of this community, demonstrating a cooperative attitude on numerous projects and events that have occurred in this City; and WHEREAS, on Saturday, October 12, 1985, the personnel stationed at the Naval Air Station again displayed this same community spirit when seventy Navy personnel generously donated their time to assist other citizens in the cleanup of N.A.S. Drive; and WHEREAS, because of their support and efforts, the project to improve the appearance of this entryway to the Naval Air Station was an overwhelming success: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS: SECTION 1. That this City Council, on behalf of the entire community, wishes to extend and express its sincere appreciation to the U. S. Naval Air Station personnel for their concern for this community and to commend them for their diligence and hard work to improve the appearance of "Our" City, which belongs as much to the Navy as to the other citizens. SECTION 2. That the City Secretary be requested to provide a copy of this resolution for the Naval Air Station as a token of appreciation. SECTION 3. That upon written request of the Mayor or five Council Members, copy attached, to find and declare an emergency due to the immediate desire of the City Council to show their appreciation for the unstinting efforts of the Navy personnel in this recent cleanup of N.A.S. Drive, such finding of an emergency is made and declared requiring suspension of the Charter rule as to consideration and voting upon ordinances or resolutions at three regular meetings so that this resolution is passed and shall take effect upon first reading as an emergency measure this the 22nd day of October, 1985. This resolution expresses the appreciation of the City Council for the unstinting efforts of Navy personnel who worked so diligently with civilians to greatly improve the appearance of NAS Drive on October 12.
