A RESOLUTION
•
WHEREAS, the Corpus Christi Aquarium Association has committed to
raising $15 million for the construction of a world class aquarium for leisure
and educational purposes; and
WHEREAS, the Texas Legislature has duly conferred the honor of
designating said aquarium as the TEXAS STATE AQUARIUM; and
WHEREAS, the City of Corpus Christi will benefit economically and
culturally from the construction of the TEXAS STATE AQUARIUM; and
WHEREAS, the City Council has approved
the City of Corpus Christi a bond proposition
designated for the aquarium for the purpose of
parking, parking improvements, utility relocations,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE
CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS:
placing before the voters of
which includes $4 million
land acquisition for public
drainage and bulkheading;
CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
SECTION 1. That the City Council has approved said bond proposition
with the full expectation that the Corpus Christi Aquarium Association shall
construct the Texas State Aquarium on property located at the south end of
Corpus Christi Beach, adjacent to North Channel Park, as fully set out before
the City Council by the Board of the Corpus Christi Aquarium Association on
February 4, 1986.
SECTION 2. That upon written request of the Mayor or five Council
members, copy attached, to find and declare an emergency due to the need for
efficient and effective administration of City affairs, such finding of an
emergency is made and declared requiring suspension of the Charter rule as to
consideration and voting upon ordinances or resolutions at three regular
meetings so that this resolution is passed and shall take effect upon first
reading as an emergency measure this the 18th day of March, 1986.

For the reasons set forth in the emergency clause of the foregoing ordinance
or resolution, an emergency exists requiring suspension of the Charter rule
as to consideration and voting upon ordinances or resolutions at three
regular meetings; I/we, therefore, request that you suspend said Charter rule
and pass this ordinance or resolution finally on the date it is introduced,
or at the present meeting of the City Council.
