EXTENDING AN INVITATION TO THE USS CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI
TO VISIT THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI DURING THE TEXAS
SESQUICENTENNIAL CELEBRATION IN 1986.
WHEREAS, the City of Corpus Christi has a long and illustrious
relationship with the United States Navy; and

WHEREAS, the USS City of Corpus Christi was commissioned in 1983
and named after our fair City; and
and
WHEREAS, the State of Texas is celebrating its Sesquicentennial;
WHEREAS, the citizens of Corpus Christi would like to share their
Sesquicentennial celebration and honor the USS City of Corpus Christi and
its officers and crew;
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS:
SECTION 1. That the City of Corpus Christi urges Secretary of
the Navy John Lehman, Senator Lloyd Benson, Senator Phil Gramm and Congressman
Solomon Ortiz to extend the invitation on behalf of the City of Corpus Christi
to the USS City of Corpus Christi its officers and crew to visit our City
in 1986. `2
SECTION 2. That upon written request of the Mayor and five Council
members, copy attached, to find and declare an emergency due to the desire
of the Council to express its support and intent at the earliest practical
date, such finding of an emergency is made and declared requiring suspension
of the Charter rule as to consideration and voting upon ordinances or
resolutions at three regular meetings so that this resolution is passed
and shall take effect upon first reading as an emergency measure this the
18th day of March, 1986.

For the reasons set forth in the emergency clause of the foregoing ordinance
or resolution, an emergency exists requiring suspension of the Charter rule
as to consideration and voting upon ordinances or resolutions at three
regular meetings; I/we, therefore, request that you suspend said Charter rule
and pass this ordinance or resolution finally on the date it is introduced,
or at the present meeting of the City Council.
