AUTHORIZING THE EXECUTION OF A CONTRACT WITH CLAUDE CHAPMAN
CONSTRUCTION CO., INC. FOR STREET IMPROVEMENTS INCLUDING
SIDEWALKS AND CURB AND GUTTER IN THE FURMAN SCHOOL AREA,
PHASE III; APPROPRIATING $866,000; AND DECLARING AN
EMERGENCY.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI,
TEXAS:
SECTION 1. That the City Manager is hereby authorized to execute a
contract with Claude Chapman Construction Co., Inc. for street improvements
including sidewalks and curb and gutter in the Furman School Area, Phase III,
all as more fully set forth in plans and specifications and contract documents
on file in the office of the City Secretary, all of which are made a part hereof
by reference and according to the bid of Claude Chapman Construction Co., Inc.
said bid being the lowest and most advantageous to the City of Corpus Christi.
SECTION 2. That there is hereby appropriated $16,275.60 from the
No. 162-152-807.07 Ninth Year Community Development Block Grant and $220,000
from the No. 220 Street Bond Fund and authorizing $629,724.40 from the
No. 162-152-807.09, Eleventh Year Community Development Block Grant previously
appropriated by Ordinance No. 18935, dated July 23, 1985, for a total of
$866,000 of which $756,254.24 is for the contract award and $109,745.76 is for
additional engineering, contingencies, testing and incidental and related
expenses applicable to Project No. 220-86-4.1, Furman School Area Street
Improvements, Phase III.
SECTION 3. That upon written request of the Mayor or five Council
members, copy attached, to find and declare an emergency due to the need to take
immediate action to preserve and protect public property by expediting the
construction of public improvements, such finding of an emergency is made and
declared requiring suspension of the Charter rule as to consideration and voting
upon ordinances or resolutions at three regular meetings so that this ordinance
is passed and shall take effect upon first reading as an emergency measure this
the 6th day of May, 1986.
