HomeMy WebLinkAbout19307 RES - 05/13/1986A RESOLUTION ENDORSING THE APPLICATION OF THE NUECES COUNTY MHMR COMMUNITY CENTER; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. WHEREAS, the Nueces County MHMR Community Center is the designated mental health authority for the City of Corpus Christi; and WHEREAS, the Nueces County MHMR Community Center provided mental health services for fifteen years; and WHEREAS, the demand for programs for the chronically mentally ill is increasing because of deinstitutionalization, and population growth; and WHEREAS, the Nueces County MHMR Community Center has prepared a six-year Service Area Comprehensive Plan which addresses the increased demand for mental health services; and has successfully WHEREAS, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development has initiated a special Program of grants, loans, and Section 8 housing certificates for eligible grantees; and WHEREAS Corpus Christi, Texas, is the smallest eligible grantee and there is a need to demonstrate how smaller communities may develop systems of care offering a range of services to help the chronically mental ill function more effectively in their everyday lives; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS: SECTION 1. That the application by the Nueces County MHMR Community Center to the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation for the Program for the Chronically Mentally I11 is fully endorsed. SECTION 2. That upon written request of the Mayor or five Council members, copy attached, to find and declare an emergency due to the need for efficient and effective administration of City affairs, such finding of an emergency is made and declared requiring suspension of the Charter rule as to consideration and voting upon ordinances or resolutions at three regular meetings so that this resolution is passed and shall take effect upon first reading as an emergency measure this the 13th day of May, 1986.
