A RESOLUTION
Cannon, Jr., a longtime resident of the City of Corpus
1986, called to his eternal rest; and
Cannon, Jr. was appointed by the City Council as the
n 1957 and served for 22 years until his retirement in
WHEREAS, Judge 0.E. Cannon, Jr., prior to his service as judge of the
Municipal Court, served in the Texas Legislature for two terms in the 1940s; he
was a member of the advisory committee of Memorial Medical Center which
established the Nueces County Hospital District; he was a veteran of World
War II, attaining the rank of Captain, serving in Europe and after the war,
serving at various military posts; and during 1955-56, he served the Nueces
County Bar Association as President; and
WHEREAS, the passing of this longtime civic leader is a loss to the
citizens of the City of Corpus Christi as well as to his family and friends;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS:
SECTION 1. That the valuabl

SECTION 3. That upon written request of the Mayor or five Council
members, copy attached, to find and declare an emergency due to the need for
efficient and effective administration of City affairs, such finding of an
emergency is made and declared requiring suspension of the Charter rule as to
consideration and voting upon ordinances or resolutions at three regular
meetings so that this ordinance is passed and shall take effect upon first
reading as an emergency measure this the 1st day of July, 1986.

For the reasons set forth in the emergency clause of the foregoing ordinance
or resolution, an emergency exists requiring suspension of the Charter rule
as to consideration and voting upon ordinances or resolutions at three
regular meetings; I/we, therefore, request that you suspend said Charter rule
and pass this ordinance or resolution finally on the date it is introduced,
or at the present meeting of the City Council.
