HomeMy WebLinkAbout19455 RES - 08/26/1986A RESOLUTION COMMENDING MAYOR HENRY G. CISNEROS FOR THE CONFERENCE ON THE FUTURE OF A REGION; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. WHEREAS, events in 1985 and 1986 confirmed the ever increasing impact of rapid change in the State of Texas and in communities in South and Southwest Texas; and WHEREAS, changes in the price of energy, changes in federal and state government priorities, and changes in real estate, ranching, farming, and financial communities have indicated that the South and Southwest Texas areas are interdependent; and WHEREAS, Mayor Henry G. Cisneros was the driving force behind the planning meeting conducted in February 1986 to organize the Conference on the Future of a Region; and WHEREAS, Mayor Cisneros planned the conference in San Antonio on August 15, 16, and 17, 1986, in conjunction with the Texas Municipal League, the UTSA Business Center, and the San Antonio Institute for American Studies; and WHEREAS, various representatives from the City of Corpus Christi and its community attended that conference and at the conference a booklet on the future of this region was produced; and WHEREAS, said conference would not have been the success it was without the hard work and dedication of Mayor Henry G. Cisneros; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS: SECTION 1. That this Council commends Mayor Henry G. Cisneros for the dedication, hard work, and foresight in planning, producing, and holding the Conference on the Future of the Region and dedicates the success of that conference to Mayor Cisneros. SECTION 2. That the City Secretary of the City of Corpus Christi is hereby authorized and directed to forward a certified copy of this resolution to Mayor Cisneros to commemorate his vision, foresight, and dedicated hard work on this conference. SECTION 3. That upon written request of the Mayor or five Council members, copy attached, to find and declare an emergency due to the need for efficient and effective administration of City affairs, such finding of an emergency is made and declared requiring suspension of the Charter rule as to consideration and voting upon ordinances or resolutions at three regular meetings so that this resolution is passed and shall take effect upon first reading as an emergency measure this the 26th day of August, 1986.
