A RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, on September 11, 1986, Lozano Special Emphasis School
received the Presidential Excellence in Education Award 1985-86, from
President Ronald Reagan at a special White House ceremony; and
WHEREAS, the award was based upon improved achievement in reading and
mathematics, and Lozano Special Emphasis School was one of only 272
elementary schools in the United States and three elementary schools in
Corpus Christi to receive this honor; and
WHEREAS, Corpus Christi was the only city in the United States with as
many as three elementary schools being so honored, bringing special honor
and prestige to this City; and
WHEREAS, this award is a tribute to hard work and high aspirations of
the students of Lozano Special Emphasis School, to the strong support of
their families, and to the leadership and excellence of Lozano's teachers,
administration and support staff and the Corpus Christi Independent School
District; and
WHEREAS, this award provides inspiration for the continued advancement
of area education;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS:
SECTION Council behalf entire
community, commends and congratulates Lozano Special Emphasis School, its
students and their families, and its teachers, administrators and support
staff, and the Corpus Christi Independent School District, for this
exceptional achievement and honor.
SECTION 2. That the City Secretary shall present a copy of this
resolution to Lozano Special Emphasis School as a token of the pride and
gratitude of the entire community for this accomplishment.
SECTION 3. That upon written request of the Mayor or five Council
members, copy attached, to find and declare an emergency due to the

finding of an emergency is made and declared requiring suspension of the
Charter rule as to consideration and voting upon ordinances or resolutions
at three regular meetings so that this resolution is passed and shall take

For the reasons set forth in the emergency clause of the foregoing ordinance
or resolution, an emergency exists requiring suspension of the Charter rule
as to consideration and voting upon ordinances or resolutions at three
regular meetings; I/we, therefore, request that you suspend said Charter rule
and pass this ordinance or resolution finally on the date it is introduced,
or at the present meeting of the City Council.
