WHEREAS, 1986 marks the 10th year of the Bayfest festival that
provides the citizens of Corpus Christi and Texas with enjoyable family oriented
entertainment, wholesome food and beverages, and the display of fine arts and
crafts; and
WHEREAS, the Bayfest Corporation and its Board of Directors have once
again staged an excellent festival that provides an opportunity for charitable
organizations to raise funds for worthy causes; and
WHEREAS, as the Bayfest festival has developed into a grand event that
merits "State Festival Status":
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS:
SECTION 1. That the City Council wholeheartedly supports Bayfest
Inc.'s efforts to become a "State Festival" and furthermore commends the 1986
Chairpersons, Cindy Kroeger and Suzanne Anthony for their hard work and
diligence in staging a super Bayfest in 1986.
SECTION 2. That a copy of this resolution be presented to the Bayfest
Inc. of Corpus Christi as a token of appreciation.
SECTION 3. That upon written request of the Mayor or five Council
members, copy attached, to find and declare an emergency due to the immediate
desire of the City Council to show their appreciation for the diligence and hard
work of Bayfest Inc. in promoting Bayfest, such finding of an emergency is made
and declared requiring suspension of the Charter rule as to consideration and
voting upon ordinances or resolutions at three regular meetings so that this
resolution is passed and shall take effect upon first reading as an emergency
measure this 7th day of October, 1986.

For the reasons set forth in the emergency clause of the foregoing resolution,
an emergency exists requiring suspension of the Charter rule as to consideration
and voting upon ordinances or resolutions at three regular meetings; I,
therefore, request that you suspend said Charter rule and pass this resolution
finally on the date it is introduced, or at the present meeting of the City
Council.
