WHEREAS, we the citizens of the City of Corpus Christi, Texas,
appreciate the beauty and enjoyment that is derived from the Corpus Christi
Seawall;
WHEREAS, this endeavor could not have endured without the efforts of
those perceptive civic leaders who deemed necessary to provide for its
embellishment by such functional manner;
WHEREAS, the American Society of Civil Engineers wish to consider the
"1938 CORPUS CHRISTI BAYFRONT PROTECTION" Project as a candidate for recognition
as a National Historic Civil Engineering Landmark;
WHEREAS, one of the considerations for receipt of said recognition is
the owner's attitude concerning the nomination;
WHEREAS, we, the citizens of Corpus Christi and owner of said
facility, hold in highest esteem, our Bayfront for recognition by said
Engineers;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS:
SECTION 1. That the City of Corpus Christi enthusiastically supports
the Corpus Christi Branch and the Texas Section of the American Society of Civil
Engineers and their efforts in attaining the designation of "1938 Corpus Christi
Bayfront Protection" Project by the American Society of Civil Engineers as a
National Historic Civil Engineering Landmark.
SECTION 2. That upon written request of the Mayor or five Council
members, copy attached, to find and declare an emergency due to the need for
efficient and effective administration of City affairs, such finding of an
emergency is made and declared requiring suspension of the Charter rule as to
consideration and voting upon ordinances or resolutions at three regular
meetings so that this resolution is passed- ppd shall to e effect up n first
reading as an emergency measure this the wfi\ day of

For the reasons set forth in the emergency clause of the foregoing ordinance
or resolution, an emergency exists requiring suspension of the Charter rule
as to consideration and voting upon ordinances or resolutions at three
regular meetings; I/we, therefore, request that you suspend said Charter rule
.and pass this ordinance or resolution finally on the date it is introduced,
or at the present meeting of the City Council.
