HomeMy WebLinkAbout19589 ORD - 12/30/1986AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 13 OF THE CODE OF ORDINANCES, SECTION 13-60, THE ELECTRICAL LICENSING ORDINANCE, TO PROVIDE FOR THE ADMINISTRATION OF EXAMINATIONS AND FOR THE RENEWAL AND IDENTIFICATION OF ELECTRICIAN LICENSES OBTAINED THROUGH THE RECIPROCAL LICENSING PROCEDURE; PROVIDING FOR SEVERANCE; AND PROVIDING FOR PUBLICATION. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS: SECTION 1. That Chapter 13 of the Code of Ordinances, Section 13-60, The Electrical Licensing Ordinance, Section 13-64, Examinations --Scheduling; grading, paragraph (a) is hereby amended to read as follows: (a) It shall be the duty of an Examination Committee, comprised of the Building Official, the Chief Electrical Inspector, and the Permit Officer, to pass upon the qualifications of all applicants for licenses. Any person who shall make application for an electrician license may obtain proper forms from the Building Inspection Department. Upon receipt, by the Building Official or his authorized representative, of an application filed by the third Monday of the month and payment of proper fees, an examination shall be scheduled on the fourth Monday of the month following receipt of the application. If the fourth Monday falls on a holiday, the examination will be given on Tuesday. SECTION 2. That Chapter 13 of the Code of Ordinances, Section 13-60, The Electrical Licensing Ordinance, Section 13-64, Examinations --Scheduling; grading, is hereby amended by adding a new subparagraph (5) to paragraph (b) to read as follows: (b)(5) A license obtained after January 1, 1987, through the reciprocal licensing procedure [13-64(b)(4)] shall be stamped reciprocal with a December 31 expiration date of the year of issuance. SECTION 3. That Chapter 13 of the Code of Ordinances, Section 13-60, The Electrical Licensing Ordinance, Section 13-64, Examinations --Scheduling; grading, paragraph (e) is hereby amended to read as follows: (e) Grading; passing or failing: The examination for a master electrician's license will be given in two (2) parts: Part I, Questions, and Part II, Plans. Each of these two (2) parts will be graded on a basis of one hundred (100) percent each. The applicant must make a grade of at least 09P.181.01 19589 MICROFILMED seventy (70) percent on each part in order to qualify for a master's license. The applicant will be given his questions and the examination will be graded at the earliest convenience of the Examination Committee. Only if the applicant makes seventy (70) percent or more on Part I will he be allowed to take Part II. If the applicant does not make at least seventy (70) percent on the Part I test, he will be required to wait ninety (90) days from the time he failed Part I test before he can take the Part I test again. Applicants who successfully complete Part I of the masters examination may request to take Part II of the examination process on the following Monday. If the applicant fails to make at least seventy (70) percent on Part II he may, at his request, take an alternate Part II. This alternate Part II must be taken and passed within ninety (90) days from the date he failed the first Part II. If the applicant does not make at least seventy (70) percent on the alternate Part II, he will be required to wait ninety (90) days from the time he failed the alternate Part II before he can take the examination for master electrician again. At that time he will be required to begin again and take Part I, and he will be required to again follow the procedure outlined above as for the first taking of the examination. All other examinations shall be in one part. SECTION 4. That Chapter 13 of the Code of Ordinances, Section 13-60, The Electrical Licensing Ordinance, Section 13-76, Preparation and use of licenses; expiration; reinstatement, is hereby amended by adding a new paragraph (4) to read as follows: (4) An electrician license obtained through the reciprocal licensing procedure is not renewable and holders of such reciprocal licenses must reapply prior to the expiration date according to the provisions of Section 13-64 Examinations--Scheduling; grading. SECTION 5. If for any reason any section, paragraph, subdivision, clause, phrase, word or provision of this ordinance shall be held invalid or unconstitutional by final judgment of a court of competent jurisdiction, it shall not affect any other section, paragraph, subdivision, clause, phrase, word or provision of this ordinance for it is the definite intent of this City Council that every section, paragraph, subdivision, clause, phrase, word or provision hereof be given full force and effect for its purpose. SECTION 6.
