AMENDING ORDINANCE 18230 ADOPTING THE FIRE PREVENTION CODE
BY ADOPTING THE STANDARD FIRE PREVENTION CODE, 1985 EDITION;
ESTABLISHING FEES FOR FIRE DEPARTMENT PERMITS; AUTHORIZING
CITATIONS FOR VIOLATIONS; PROHIBITING PARKING WITHIN 15 FEET
OF FIRE HYDRANTS; REQUIRING SIGNS AND MARKINGS OF DESIGNATED
FIRE LANES; REQUIRING ADEQUATE TURNING SPACE ON DEAD END
STREETS; PROVIDING FOR SEVERANCE; AND PROVIDING FOR
PUBLICATION.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI,
TEXAS:
SECTION 1. Ordinance 18230, passed and approved by the City Council
on May 16, 1984, adopting the "Standard Fire Prevention Code, 1982 Edition" is
hereby amended by amending Section 1 of said ordinance as follows: A,
a. The first sentence of Section 1 is hereby amended by deleting
"Standard Fire Prevention Code, 1982 Edition," and substituting
"Standard Fire Prevention Code, 1985 Edition," therefor.
b. The references in Section 1 to various sections of the "Standard
Fire Prevention Code" which are amended by Ordinance 18230 are
hereby amended as follows to conform to the chapter
reorganization of the 1985 edition:

SECTION 2. Ordinance 18230, as amended, is hereby further amended by
adding a new Section 1A, said Section 1A to read as follows:
Section 1A. Permit Fees. Applications for permits shall be
accompanied by payment of fees in accordance with the Corpus Christi
Fire Department Fire Prevention Permit Schedule attached hereto and
made a part of this ordinance as Exhibit A.
SECTION 3. Ordinance 18230, as amended is hereby further amended by
adding a new Section 16, said Section 1B to read as follows:
Section 16. Written Notices and Citations. If a violation of the
Fire Prevention Code is unabated after written notice and a reasonable

amount of time, then the Fire Official is authorized to issue a
citation to the business owner or to any person in charge of the
premises.
SECTION 4. Ordinance 18230, as amended is hereby further amended by
adding a new Section 1C, said Section 1C to read as follows:
Section 1C. Blocking Fire Hydrants Prohibited. No automobile, truck,
or other vehicle shall be parked closer than fifteen feet to any fire
hydrant.
SECTION 5. Ordinance 18230, as amended is hereby further amended by
adding a new Section 1D, said Section 10 to read as follows:
Section 1D. Marking of Fire Lanes Required. Fire lanes designated by
the Fire Official in accordance with the Fire Prevention Code shall be
marked by the property owner along the perimeter with conspicuous
signs which have the words "Fire Lane - No Parking" in red four inch
high letters on white background at 50 foot intervals. Said signs
shall be between five and eight feet above the ground. Fire lanes
shall also be marked along curbing with similar wording in white four
inch letters on a red background stripe.
SECTION 6. Ordinance 18230, as amended is hereby further amended by
adding a new Section 1E, said Section 1E to read as follows:
Section 1E. In the event a dead end roadway exceeds 150 feet in
length, adequate space for turning around fire apparatus shall be
required to be provided by the owner of the property served.
SECTION 7. Articles I, II, and III, Section 18-1 through 18-59 of
Chapter 18 - Fire Prevention and Protection of the Code of Ordinances, City of
Corpus Christi, is repealed and superseded by Ordinance 18230 as amended by this
ordinance.
SECTION 8. If for any reason any section, paragraph, subdivision,
clause, phrase, word or provision of this ordinance shall be held invalid or
unconstitutional by final judgment of a court of competent jurisdiction, it
shall not affect any other section, paragraph, subdivision, clause, phrase, word
or provision of this ordinance for it is the definite intent of this City
Council that every section, paragraph, subdivision, clause, phrase, word or
provision hereof be given full force and effect for its purpose.
SECTION 9. Publication shall be made one time in the official
publication of the City of Corpus Christi by publishing the caption stating in
substance the purpose of the ordinance, this ordinance to become effective upon
such publication.

*The special $25.00 special handling fee shall be submitted if an inspector must handle the permit inspection in
such a way as to interfere with his regular scheduled duties.
If a permit is requested that has an effective date less than 24 hours from the date of application or where an in-
spection must be conducted at a specific time of day during regular working hours, the additional fee is required.
If for some reason an additional inspection of the site is required (in connection with the permit approval), after
the first two (2) inspections, an additional $20.00 must be submitted to the permit office before any subsequent
inspections can be made.
Churches not having day care facilities can pay a one time fee for an assembly occupancy.
